DDPL Venue FAQ
- Is my bar/restaurant a good fit for DDPL events?
The answer is most likely, Yes! The physical space needed should accomodate two of the 8 person poker table tops on existing tables in your location. Most venues will want to have a minimum of three to four tables. Booths do not typically work well in most locations as it is hard for players to get in and out of their seats. If you are unsure if your space will be appropriate, we will be glad to help analyze your location for layout options for our events.
- How are the tournaments legal?
DDPL poker tournaments are free for players to play in, with no consideration for play. Players do not wager anything of value and they win league and prize points. Host venues are encouraged to award small nightly prizes (~$20 value) to the winner. DDPL provides prize points to second through eighth place, based on nightly attendance, for further encouragement for continued play.
Players never wager any money in the tournaments. Points are tracked over the course of the session, which runs on a quarterly basis.
- How long does a tournament last?
The tournament itself will last around 2.5-3 hours and registration will begin 30 minutes prior. Expect players in your establishment for an average of 2-3 hours. Most venues host two tournament sessions each night where players will average 4-5 hours in your establishment.
- How do the prizes work?
DDPL provides excellent League Prizes that you can advertise to your players. Annually, we have a Championship Tournament where we award a seat to the World Series Of Poker Main Event. We also award Cash & Prizes every 3 months in our Quarterly Regional Championship tournaments. In NE Kansas/NW Missouri, the QRC awards a $3,000 prize pool.
Nightly first place prizes are up to each individual venue and are the responsibility of the individual venue. Many venues give away gift certificates that can be used for future visits to their establishments. Nightly second thru sixth place prize points are awarded by DDPL. Prize points can be redeemed for largrer prizes including TV's, Gift Certificates, Game systems, etc.
Venue Championship Prize. This is the prize that is unique to your venue. Some venues give away tournament buy-ins, electronics, trips, etc. This prize is up to each individual venue and we will advertise the prize for you to the league. High quality venue-specific prizes are excellent marketing tools to make your venue stand out and get maximum return on your poker events.
- How do the events get promoted?
Advertise! Post our flyers in the high traffic areas of your establishment to make sure everyone who walks in your place has plenty of opportunity to know that they are invited to come play in the poker tournaments!
We also encourage you to talk to your vendors to co-brand a series of banners and flyers advertising the poker tournament and their beer brand. Typically, they will cover the entire cost of the banner for you as it encourages people to drink their brand.
DDPL will promote your events via email, online, and via printed schedules. There are also prizes that are awarded to players that may have your establishment advertised on them.
